Week 30: Critical Practice
Finalising
I was able to test out the AR with the 3D paper cut outs, while doing so I came across a lot of challenges for example the AR would not open the phone camera and crash, also the 3D paper cut out was not for image tracking. To fix these problem I had to separate the AR crash scene from the reset of the project to see the problem which was that the code I did for image tracking had mistakes that I didn’t realise at first after fixing that and it was allowing the AR to work with the phone camera, there was the second problem that was the image tracking it was failing to detect and image of the paper cut out I tried putting distinctive markers and crop the image but it still didn’t work or was not aligning currently. What did work was using a QR code so we printed out the QR code placed it in the middle of the paper cut out and it worked well, it may struggle when turning the device but we wanted it align with the paper cut out.
I was able to have the dissolve shader working for when Marth dissolves into IO, but didn’t have time to add particles or sound as in this scene it’s less than a minute with not interaction. So adding sound such as dialogue or music would have better concluded the story.
Reflection:
I feel a though with the time and how big the idea was, the final result turned out better than expected especially because we where delayed by 6 weeks. I do think that there are still so much more improvement and addition the we as a team wanted to add both on the AR and VR platform, but I think the story translate very successfully into the cross platform of AR and VR.
