Project

Within my project I want to really hone in three elements that bring peace; nature, colour/light and sound. theses elements will have their own scene in which it breaks down and removes the surrounding elements. When going into the VR you are surrounded by nature to leaving the VR in darkness and sound.

“Using this month I will create the nature scene, before creating it I looked at different articles on why nature is effective in bring peace as it is well known that nature relief stress. These studies have shown that time in nature — as long as people feel safe — is an antidote for stress: It can lower blood pressure and stress hormone levels, reduce nervous system arousal, enhance immune system function, increase self-esteem, reduce anxiety, and improve mood.” (1)

This quote from Yale further explains the psychology effects of daily explore of nature, and what really was interesting that people needs to feel safe within nature in order reduce stress. So the way I set up and design the nature space needs to be inviting so thinking of other colours that allow the feeling of safety such as soft light colours like blue, pink, purple, white and green.

Which leads me to how the aesthetic of the nature scenes can look like, instead of creating a scene that resemble something that can be seen in real life but by enhancing the surreal and whimsical elements to further push the notion of escapism in nature. An example are from 3D artists and studios that create scenic nature like Alexis Christodoulou (previously mention in my last blog log), James Tralie, inigoinchaurraga and milinski studio

Thesis

I have been still reading different books and articles in relation to VR and affordance, below are a list of books and articles that I think may be useful for my writing:
